How Do You Get Rid of Cellulite?

Cellulite is really only a glammed up word for fat. It is specifically excess fat that expands and pushes against the connective tissue of your skin. This is what creates the infamous dimpled "cottage cheese" appearance. Cellulite is the result of excess body fat that, in women, tends to collect in hormone targeted areas such as the butt, thighs, hips and stomach. Because women have a higher body fat percentage than men, cellulite is more noticeable.

Because of the way it's structured, cellulite can be much harder to eliminate than other forms of fat (see the picture above). Even supermodels have cellulite - it's just harder to see through all that computerized airbrushing.

You can get rid of cellulite by adopting a healthier style of eating. Replace processed junk foods with fresh fruit and vegetables and whole grains. Limit your total fat consumption. Eat only "healthy" fats such as raw nuts, avocados and extra virgin coconut oil or olive oil. Limit your daily caloric intake to a healthy amount for your size and lifestyle. The average woman will need 1200-1600 calories per day depending on her height, weight and activity level. Take a multi-vitamin, and drink a minimum of 2 liters of water every day.

Exercise is Important!

While a change in diet will get you about 70-80% of the way to your goals, don't discount the value of exercise in helping to get rid of cellulite. The best option is a combination of strength training and cardio.

If you're forced to choose between strength training and cardio because you're pressed for time, ALWAYS opt for strength training! Muscle is more metabolically active and burns more calories even when you're just sitting around.
